Matthew Barrett - Piano

Matthew BarrettMatthew was born and raised in Newfoundland and Labrador and grew up in the town of Happy Valley – Goose Bay. Matthew had a keen interest in music at a very young age and started playing piano when he was 7 years old. He not only played piano throughout his life but also played guitar in several rock bands, played drums/percussion and trombone in school bands, and dabbled with the accordion as well. During his high school years, Matthew was very involved with music both in and out of school. He played in many school bands and also sang in schools choirs. Matthew also went on tour throughout the province of Newfoundland and Labrador with his own band at the time “Blakk Hand.” Throughout high school he also played for local musicals such as “The Little Shop of Horrors.” Matthew was also commissioned to write music for the local dance group “Lets Dance.” After High School Matthew pursued music even further when he went to St Francis Xavier University to study music. Throughout University he played with several jazz combos, accompanied many singers, sang in the university concert choir, and played for the vocal jazz ensemble. Matthew graduated in May of 2009 after four years of studying at St. F.X. with a BA in Music with an advanced major (Jazz Studies). Matthew is currently living in Charlottetown working on a demo with his band “The Silver Wolf Band” and teaching at Stratford Music Academy.
